Whitworth Church

Absolutely stunning little Church and a true hidden gem. Genuinely steeped in history this is the the final resting place of Robert "Bobby" Shafto.

Difficult to spot it if you are driving for the first time.... Keep your eye on the right side of the road (if you are coming from Spennymoor) for a small pathway as you approach the location

Ever heard of Bobby Shafto? This church has the family plot and plaques to commemorate this family who originally lived in this picturesque area of the world. Although the links to the song are tenuous this church is well worth a look for its architecture. Church warden was lovely and a very good guide to the place
